Integrated Waste Management Advisory Committee

The Integrated Waste Management Advisory Committee addresses:

  1. reducing the total amount of solid waste generated in Durham.
  2. incorporating a long-term community vision into the town integrated waste management strategy.
  3. increasing community awareness and participation in integrated waste management issues.
  4. working with the Department of Public Works to improve the waste management program.
  5. promoting education and outreach while increasing community involvement.
  6. building partnerships with the Durham Business Association, UNH, student groups and the Town of Durham regarding waste issues.

This committee has had the pleasure of working with many resident volunteers at the Swap Shop, located at the Recycling Center/Transfer Station. Overseeing the Swap Shop may be our most familiar project, but other initiatives include our Spring and Fall newsletter, our compost bin sales and education, procuring standardized recycling bins for the middle and high schools, information about hazardous waste handling for builders and re-modelers, and helping establish a town policy for the purchase of recycled paper for town offices.
