Members:
Kevin Gardner,
Chair
Kevin Gardner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil
Engineering at the University of New Hampshire. He directs the Recycled
Materials Resource Center and the UNH Environmental Research Group. A
primary research interest relates to sustainable engineering and
understanding the multiple dimensions of sustainable societal forms
from a municipal perspective. Dr. Gardner has recently received funding
to establish a PhD fellowship program in Sustainable Science and
Engineering, now in its second year, and teaches Sustainable
Engineering at UNH.
David Cedarholm
Dave Cedarholm has been Durham’s Town Engineer since 2005. Although his
professional experience is primarily in areas of water resources,
hydrogeology, and environmental engineering, David has a keen interest
in alternative energy and energy conservation and particularly as it
applies to Town of Durham facilities. David is also excited about
promoting alternative means of transportation and working toward
providing the local commuters with a nearby park and ride facility.
Charles Forcey
Charles has lived in Durham since 1999 with his wife, Julia
Rodriguez, and three school age children. He is a small business
owner (Historicus, Inc.) and a doctoral candidate in modern
American History at Columbia University. A long time outdoor
enthusiast, Charles developed a strong interest in renewable
energy technology and energy efficiency during a recent
renovation and upgrade to the energy systems of his home and
is planning the installation of solar electrical and hot
water systems.
Mike Hoffman
Mike is a twenty-plus-year member of the Durham-UNH community. He
recently retired from the Durham Fire Department, where his
responsibilities included construction plan review and building
inspections for code compliance. Mike’s passion for energy management
is in his genes. His father designed and built passive solar homes in
the 1950’s and 1960’s and in 1968 started an energy conservation
program at Yale University. The program later spun off to become an
energy consulting firm that saved large institutions millions of
dollars annually in energy costs. Mike carries these values and
interests with him to this day. Peter Ejarque A
do-it-yourselfer aerospace engineer with two degrees, Peter has built a
green alternative home in one of Durham's woodedneighborhoods. He is
happy to provide tours. Peter drives an electric car. Robin Mower As
Town Council Representative to the Energy Committee, Robin brings
issues to the attention of the broader Durham community as well as
formal communications to the Council. Although she has a strong
commitment to fostering community sustainability, she makes no claimto
practical energy knowledge. However, she recently bit the bullet and
added foam insulation to the attic of her 1949 house. Turn out those
lights! Turn off your engine (no idling)! Brian Goetz Brian
has recently moved to Durham with his family. He brings to the
Committee a Masters Degree in Environmental Policy from Indiana
University and an academic and professional career devoted to water
resources, waste reduction/recycling and sustainability issues. |
