OVERNIGHT PARKING BAN

When is the Overnight Parking Ban?
The Overnight Parking Ban is a year ‘round ban. During the Overnight Parking Ban, vehicles may not be parked on Main Street, Jenkins Court, Ballard Street or any town-owned parking lot between 1AM and 6 AM, or for any amount of time between those hours.

Where can’t I park during the Overnight Parking Ban?
During the Overnight Parking Ban, vehicles may not be parked on Main Street, Jenkins Court, Ballard Street or any town-owned parking lot.

I was working for a downtown business after 1:00 AM. Why did I get a ticket?
During the Overnight Parking Ban, no vehicle may be parked on Main Street, Jenkins Court, Ballard Street and town-owned parking lots year ‘round between 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM. There are no exceptions.

I’ve parked there before and didn’t get a ticket. Why this time?
During the evening and overnight hours, parking enforcement is the responsibility of the Durham Police Department’s Patrol Division. Calls for service and other police activity often prevents officers from ticketing illegally parked cars. If you haven’t gotten a ticket in the past; you’ve just been lucky.

VISITOR PARKING

Where can an overnight visitor park?
Ask your host to provide you with off-street parking. If no off-street parking is available, please beware that parking on the street may subject your car to ticketing and/or towing if the Winter Parking Ban or Overnight Parking ban applies to the place or time that you’ve parked.

Where can a daytime visitor park?
The Town encourages off-street parking, but daytime visitors can park on the street where parking is permitted…please watch for regulatory signs, pavement markings, fire lanes, fire hydrants, and time limits.
